Bobby Sue Smith Cohn Forum Lecture Series

We dedicate the forum to the memory of our beloved Theta sister and great supporter, Bobby Sue, who passed away in 2010.
A lifelong Houstonian, Bobby Sue attended and graduated from St. John’s School. She attended Randolph-Macon Women’s College and then transferred and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.

She continued to be an avid supporter of the Theta Antiques Show throughout her life. Bobby Sue always loved working behind the scenes at the Show, especially helping every plant chairman. She will always be remembered with her wagon and watering cans.

She came from a family that loved this city deeply and she chose to continue their tradition of philanthropy by contributing greatly to its civic and cultural landscape while never seeking recognition. She served or previously served as trustee or director of numerous organizations including Vivian L. Smith Foundation, Communities in Schools, Houston, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Glassell School of Art, Southwestern University, Riverway Bank, Dress for Success Houston (founding member), Friends of Nursing at St. Luke’s Hospital (founding member), Episcopal High School, The Post Oak School and The Chinquapin School. There were many organizations that she loved and supported but was particularly interested in helping newer and smaller ones get off the ground.

Although the last few years Bobby Sue struggled with her health, she never stopped putting others first. She saw the good in everyone, and was the true meaning of unconditional love. Bobby Sue had amazing strength and an incredibly strong will. She had impeccable style, while always maintaining her sharp wit and remarkable sense of humor.
