The seals of the countries that have ruled Texas and the state’s colorful wild flowers are enduring symbols of Lone Star history. The flowers and seals are the theme of this elegant rug. The border of the rug features the five point star, and oak and olive branches from the state seal. The design is based on a custom hand hooked carpet made for the Texas Governor’s Mansion in 1982.
Friends of the Governor’s Mansion commissioned Houston-based Hokanson, Inc. to create a limited edition of the rug pictured above. Sales will help fund a larger version that Hokanson is creating for the Mansion and which will be exhibited during the show. The Mansion rug will be a highlight of the collection when the current restoration of the building is complete in 2012.
Each rug is 5” 4” by 6’ 4” with hand tufted loops of 100% virgin wool. The versatile size makes a striking wall hanging or perfect floor covering for an entry hall. There are 25 different colors of custom dyed yarn in the design.
